Adios sugar, dairy and flour (and anything that tastes good)!

So I have chosen to give up sugar, dairy, flour, and all processed foods for 6 weeks. You may think this is for a weight loss purpose but it's actually for a health reason, (although the weight loss is a secondary reason). I've been having some symptoms for the last 8 months and have been to 4 specialists, and 1 regular doctor. I've had numerous blood tests, an MRI, 3 rounds of anti-biotics, and 5 rounds of another medication and I have gotten many different answers from the doctors about what is wrong with me. None of the things they say I have are serious but nothing they have done has helped and I'm miserable 90% of the time. So I have decided to take matters into my own hands and with the help of my sister-in-law I'm gonna rid this bugger the natural way. I honestly think that all of my symptoms are a result of a poor diet filled with junk and hormone ridden meat.

This is going to be the biggest challenge of my life, but I feel that I have more motivation to do it knowing that I will feel better after it's done. I have been off of sugar since the 1st, and today is my first day without dairy or flour. It has been a struggle so far. I can feel the withdrawals coming on and I'm sure I won't be pleasant to live with for the next week while this stuff is getting out of my system. So what can I eat you may ask? I can have meat (must be organic), vegtables (limited on the potatoes), almonds, cashews, lemons, limes, extra virgin olive oil, tofu (not sure if I will get to that point), soy or rice milk, Granny Smith apples, and there are some breads that I can have but you can only get them at a health food store and they are pretty pricey. Along with that I have to take certain vitamins and herbs to cleanse out my organs. So wish me luck people and I'll let you know how it turns off. If nothing else I will be healthier! Here's to a happy and healthy 2010!

I read a really interesting article on preventing cancer and it basically says go vegetarian. I'm trying it and luckily for me, I'm not a huge fan of meat to begin with. It's just the dairy that will be hard to give up. It's just veggies, fruit, whole wheat, and legumes. Can't wait to see how it goes for you!

When I had to give up dairy to breastfeed Ash, I actually really learned to like soy milk. Especially with cereal (if you can have cereal). I don't know if different brands of soy milk taste different, but I got the Kirkland brand from Costco and it wasn't bad at all. Good luck! I really hope it makes you feel better.

So I am guessing this is coming from the medical mystery herself, Miss Karin huh? I hope it works! Good luck, I know I would struggle big time.

You'll have to tell us how it turns out. Is Scott doing this with you? I hope this works and you feel better soon. I didn't know you had been going to specialists. Good luck. Oh I was wondering about the apples? You put down Granny Smith, can you have others? or are they different, less natural sugar maybe?

the cleanse was one of the best things I ever did. I need to introduce you to my smoothies...with rice milk (get chocolate), almond butter, and bana( oh, wait...can you really not have bananas?? ugh.)

Well, good luck with that (grin).

YOU CAN DO THIS and you will feel better. it's worth it.
